Welcome To The Shelby Family Dental Care Web Site
History of SFDC
Shelby Family Dental Care had its start in the summer of 1991. Dr. Charles Edelen opened the practice in August of 1991 after five years of service in the United States Public Health Service. Dr. Edelen served in the Indian Health Service on Indian Reservations in Montana and Wyoming. While in the public health service, Dr. Edelen gained broad-based dental experience with focus on children's dental care, oral surgery, and restorative dentistry.
Dr. Edelen moved his family back to Ohio to begin private practice in Shelby County and to be close to family and friends. His wife's family is originally from Sidney, and his family is from Toledo. Dr. Edelen met his wife Julie (formerly Julie Redinbo) while they both attended The Ohio State University. Chuck graduated with a Bachelor of Science from OSU in 1981 and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1985. He currently resides just south of Sidney with Julie and their three children.
Dr. Edelen's original dental practice was known as Charles J. Edelen, DDS, Inc. from 1991 until 2002. As the practice grew and expanded, additional office space and parking became necessary, and a major office renovation was completed in 2001. A nation-wide search was conducted for a dental associate to help Dr. Edelen with a rapidly expanding patient base. Dr. Damen Patel joined the practice as an associate in 2002, and became a full partner in 2003. The practice adopted the new name Shelby Family Dental Care in 2003. The practice assumed the business of Dr. David Fields in 2004, and Dr. Fields retired shortly thereafter.
